Scene 2

 

Metamorfosis

 

      (The ORATOR moves to the beat of the spoken word as multicolored lights illuminate the stage.  He is dressed in white and is barefooted.)

 

It begins in a verse:

a poem that will be

sung. A

song that will be

danced.  A

dance that will

end.

And such is life,

or this one at least.

 

The metamorphosis

Begins here.

 

A new man?

—perhaps,

but not really.

 

The new man who comes out

is the same, same one

who once hid inside a frail boy.

But now he is out

and about

and without shame.

Sin vergüenza.

 

Full thrust forward,

he stands on ground zero.

He is blue, green, red,

copper, gold, and silver;

Answers yes to the word

man.

Answers yes to the word

Xicano.

Answers yes to the word

gay.

 

Gay Xicano Man:

The metamorphosis

has begun—

The metamorphosis

will continue.

 

Gay Xicano Man

dances.

Gay Xicano Man

sings.

Gay Xicano Man

writes

the poems that turn into the

verses

he loves to dance and sing.
